La Scene Musicale Starts 2009-2010 with New Arts Directory as well as Robert Lepage Cover for La SCENA

For Immediate Release

Montreal – July 13, 2009

La Scene Musicale is kicking off the 2009-2010 Season in style with two products aimed at Back-to-School and the Fall Arts Scene.

New Arts Directory
La Scene Musicale is pleased to announce the first-ever annual La SCENA Arts Directory, which will hit stands August 14, 2009. The directory will be the first of its kind in Quebec and promises to be a premier source for professional artists, students, and arts-lovers in the province. Through the directory, readers will have access to comprehensive listings of schools, conservatories, teachers, programs, competitions, websites, performance spaces, amateur and professional choirs and ensembles, supply stores, high end audio, agents and much more in the fields of music, dance, theatre, film, and visual arts. There will be regional listings as well as national listings, plus a fee based international section. The appearance of this bilingual directory is timed for back-to-school, and will be the essential guide for arts and music learning and participation, consulted all year long. “We are using our extensive database to provide the most complete resource for consumers, musicians and artists” says Wah Keung Chan, founding president of La Scene Musicale / The Music Scene, the 13-year-old non-profit organization publishing the print magazines La Scena Musicale, The Music Sceneand La SCENA, and the website SCENA.org. In total, 25,000 copies of the directory will be distributed across the province of Quebec.

Fall Arts Preview
The fall arts and music scene will be extensively covered in the Fall Edition of La SCENA, which will appear on September 3, 2009. We are thrilled to grace its cover with Canadian auteur Robert Lepage, the internationally acclaimed playwright, filmmaker and multimedia artist. In addition to an interview with Lepage, critical reviews of his recent works will also be presented. Included in La SCENA Fall issue will be the September issue of La Scena Musicale, featuring tenor Marc Hervieux who will perform twice in Opéra de Montréal’s upcoming 30thseason. The monthly Discovery CD features a recital of Schubert’s masterpiece Die Schöne Müllerinperformed by Jean-Paul Jeannotte, the Opéra de Montréal’s first general director. This issue is shaping to be a special issue on Opera and Theatre.

2009-2010 Publishing Year
The production schedule for the 2009-2010 year is now available. All 10 issues of the bilingual La Scena Musicale are planned, with four of these issues (September, December-January, April and June) inserted into the quarterly Arts magazine La SCENA, leaving six issues as stand alone music magazines. May and June are national issues focused on festivals (May focused on Jazz, World and Folk music festivals, while June contains Classical Music and Arts festivals). In addition, there will be two issues of the all-English The Music Scene Ontario (November and March). The advertising rates for 2009-2010 remain the same as in 2008-2009.
