June is an exciting month for La Scena Musicale as we feature our 14th annual National Festival issue. The issue will appear on May 28 (Quebec Edition) and on June 5 (English Canada Edition under The Music Scenebrand) and continues to provide the most complete information to plan your musical summer in Canada, including our Guide to Classical Music and Arts Festivals (more than 200 festivals!). This will be the most comprehensive guide yet, with 100 classical music festivals and 700 concert listings as well as 100 arts festivals. Our seasoned writers also highlight the most exciting events and provide articles on the newsworthy recent changes in Canadian festivals. For more information on this guide, please consult:
Swiss flutist Emmanuel Pahud is our cover artist this June. Pahud will teach and give several performances at the Domaine Forget Festival this June.

Music lovers will also be treated to musicologist Jean Marchand’s interesting comparison of Mahler's Symphony No. 8, the famed "Symphony of a Thousand," and Monteverdi’s Vespers, both to be performed this June: Yannick Nézet-Séguin will conduct the combined forces of the National Arts Centre Orchestra and the Orchestre Métropolitain for the former and Christopher Jackson will conduct the Studio de musique ancienne de Montréal for the latter. Readers also meet Canadian baritone Elliot Madoré, a winner of the 2010 Met Auditions.

The June 2010 Discovery CD (in partnership with XXI Records) features Canadian contralto Maureen Forrester (who celebrates her 80th birthday this summer) performing Schumann’s Liederkreis and Brahms. Subscribers toLSM will receive this plus a bonus downloadable album of Forrester singing Bach and Handel arias.

The La SCENA Arts magazine will also be included in the Quebec June issue. It will feature the world's first international circus festival (which will inaugurate this year in Montreal), a historical look at fringe festivals across Canada including our writer's picks on this year's shows, an exclusive interview with filmmakers Anne-Sophie Dutoit and Jean-Claude Labrecque, and much more.

The Music Scene: Finally, English Canadians can keep their eyes peeled for the next edition of The Music Scene, which will hit news stands on June 7. This issue will feature saxophonist extraordinaire Richard Underhill. The issue will also include our Jazz, World and Folk festival guides.

Subscription Guide: June is also a time for music and arts lovers to purchase 2010-2011 Season subscriptions. This issue will also include our Subscription Guide, an advertising feature to help readers make their subscription decisions.
The deadline for advertising is May 25 (Quebec Edition) and May 31 (English Canada Edition).

NEW Endowment Fund:
Our application for the matching program, Placement Culture, has formally been accepted: for every dollar donated to LSM/TMS, the Québec government will contribute one dollar and fifty cents. Placement Culture is designed to create endowment funds for charitable arts groups like La Scene Musicale/The Music Scene. Our goal is to raise $100,000 until November 30, 2010, which combined with the government contribution, will create a $250,000 endowment. This will help us continue our magazines's excellence and innovation for years to come. We are therefore launching at this time our 2010 endowment fund campaign. Please join our fundraising committee or make a donation.
