Symbols of independence, pride and bravery, the Cossack folk traditions offer a unique insight into the cultural heritage of the Ukraine and Southern Russia. The Russian Cossack State

Dance Company’s music and dance presentations embody the historic Cossack strength and passion for life and freedom with 30 dancers immortalizing their military tradition and nomadic way of life; while the chorus and featured vocalists are joined by a 10-piece chamber orchestra ensemble to expertly deliver enchanting, authentic interpretations of traditional Cossack melodies.

Founder and Musical Director Lenoid Milovanov is a leading authority on Cossack history and folk culture. He founded the Company in 1990 as a means of preserving the rich Cossack heritage. With a curator’s eye, Mr. Milovanov’s uncompromising attention to detail is evident in the traditional Cossack and Kuban costume’s authenticity and vibrancy, the vivid choreography, boisterous performance, and even the use of an eclectic mix of classical Russian instruments such as the balalaika and accordion. The result is a spectacular two-hour programme that continues to earn the Company international acclaim.

The Russian Cossack State Dance Company have toured extensively in Germany, Greece, Albania, Denmark, Spain, Italy, USA, China, Korea, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, France, The Czech Republic, Sweden, Scotland, Yugoslavia and have recently completed a 28-city tour of the UK. They have been featured at the Edinburgh Festival and Military Tattoo, and spent a full season at the London “Peacock” Theatre (Saddler Wells), which resulted in a highly-rated presentation on BBC Television.
