TD Toronto Jazz Festival's Inaugural Artistic Director's Guide to the Jazz Festival

Toronto – If jazz has you scratching your head, the TD Toronto Jazz Festival is here to help with the inaugural Artistic Director's Guide to the Jazz Festival. Led by Josh Grossman, these FREE weekly prep sessions are open to the general public. Learn what patrons can expect this summer from over 1,500 participating musicians, 350 concerts and over 40 locations.

Thursday, June 10 - 5:30pm
Josh will kick off this educational series with Juno nominated saxophonist, Tara Davidson at Dominion on Queen. This one hour discussion will focus on the Jazz by the Lake Series at Harbourfront Centre featuring Miguel Zenon, Hilario Duran Big Band, Dave Douglas & Keystone, and the James Farm Band featuring Joshua Redman.

Thursday, June 17 - 5:30pm
Vocalist Christine Duncan joins Josh at The Rex to discuss The Next Wave Series at the Music Gallery which features the Eric Boeren Quartet, Random Access Unplugged, Element Choir, Fred Frith and Doran-Stucky-Studer & Tacuma. Learn more about the avant-garde side of jazz!

Thursday, June 24 - 5:30pm
The series comes to a close on the eve of opening night as Josh finishes the Artistic Director's Guide to the Jazz Festival with JAZZ.FM91 host Walter Venafro. Join them at Trane Studio as they discuss Jazz @ The Trane Series featuring Andre Leroux, Grace Kelly, the Terry Clarke Trio, Andy Milne’s Dapp Theory and the Sando Dominelli Trio.

Brush shoulders with the experts and increase your jazz knowledge. Whether a novice or seasoned festival-goer, this is one series that will leave you just as knowledgeable as the Artistic Director himself. Or pretty darn close! Each session will be approximately one hour, with time set aside at the end for questions; these free, intimate and interactive talks are a sure fire way to maximize the experience at the Festival.

The TD Toronto Jazz Festival, celebrating its 24th anniversary this year, runs from June 25 - July 4, 2010. Get ready to kick off summer as the city’s largest music festival presents free concerts and workshops, late night jam sessions and some of the biggest names in jazz. It is a musical celebration like no other!
