June 28, 2010

Stratford, Ont… The family of Maureen Forrester is pleased to announce that a grand Canadian Tribute honouring the life and art of their late mother will be organized byStratford Summer Music as a part of the music festival’s 2011 season.

The likely date is Monday, July 25, 2011, a date which would have marked Maureen Forrester's 81st birthday.

“We are looking forward to this beautiful tribute to our beloved mother to help us say good-bye to her because a farewell to her voice and extraordinary legacy cannot be done in private. This will be an occasion that can involve all who loved her and the nation that she adored,” said a family statement from her five children, Gina Dineen, Paula Berton, Daniel Kash, Susie Whaley and Linda Kash.

“Stratford Summer Music is honoured to have been selected by the Forrester family to be the host organization for what will be a splendid national salute to one of our country’s most important cultural figures,” said John A. Miller, Artistic Producer of Stratford Summer Music. “Stratford is a city closely associated with Maureen through her performances at the theatre festival and her ongoing influence at the music festival.”

During July and August, 2010, Stratford Summer Music will dedicate its 108 concerts to Miss Forrester and present the tenth year of the Maureen Forrester Next Generation Canadian Artists series, this season featuring Saskatchewan pianist Stephen Runge, New Brunswick violinist Marc Djokic with Quebec marimbist Anne-Julie Caron, and British Columbia marimbist Pius Cheung.

Co-incidentally, 2011 also marks the centennial of the death of Gustav Mahler, the composer whose music is most closely associated with Miss Forrester and whose music will certainly be highlighted during this ceremony.”

Full details of the participants and events to be included in the 2011 Tribute will begin to be released later this year. One particular step which the Forrester family has requested is a shuttle bus service to bring their mother’s aged friends in Toronto to Stratford for the Tribute.
