Jubilee Festival of Chamber Music "Julian Rachlin and Friends" in Dubrovnik Sept 1 to 12

JUBILEE FESTIVAL OF CHAMBER MUSIC 'JULIAN RACHLIN AND FRIENDS'
FROM 01 - 12 SEPTEMBER IN DUBROVNIK

The jubilee tenth season of the Festival of Chamber Music "Julian Rachlin and Friends", in Dubrovnik will include performances by the world-famous musicians and film stars from the ones the audience is already familiar with to new, young musicians. In anticipation of the Festival, Violin masterclasses will be held for young musicians. On the occasion of its tenth birthday, the Festival and UNICEF are organising a donation gala dinner hosted by UNICEF International Goodwill Ambassadors Sir Roger Moore and Maestro Julian Rachlin under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Croatia. Actors Sir Roger Moore and John Malkovich will be coming back to Dubrovnik again this year!

Once again, the City of Dubrovnik will breathe chamber music between 1st and 12th September! Numerous esteemed and world-famous chamber musicians invited by Maestro Julian Rachlin himself will come to Dubrovnik to perform at one of the (historical) stages as part of the jubilee 10th Festival of Chamber Music "Julian Rachlin and Friends". Alongside musicians Janine Jansen, Lawrence Power, Boris Andrianov, Stefan Vladar, Itamar Golan, Lily Maisky, Mischa Maisky, Hyung-ki Joo, Pavel Vernikov, Sophie Rachlin, Boris Kuschnir, Torleif Thedéen, Julia-Maria Kretz, Lera Auerbach, Martin Grubinger etc., well-known film stars, a long-standing friend, Festival fan and legendary actor Sir Roger Moore and film star John Malkovich will participate in the Festival Programme again this year!

The 10th Festival of Chamber Music "Julian Rachlin and Friends" will open on 1 September with an evening of music and readings entirely dedicated to Beethoven, with a symbolic title: THE TESTAMENT. The Programme includes Quartet for 2 violins, viola & cello No. 13 in B major Op. 130 and Great Fugue for 2 violins, viola & cello in B flat major Op. 133. Between the movements, the legendary actor Sir Roger Moore will read from the "Heiligenstadt Testament" by Beethoven.

During the Festival, in addition to the Concert by Participants of Masterclasses which is organised this year for the first time in anticipation of the Festival, the audience will be offered already "traditional" events such as Concert for the People of Dubrovnik in the Jesuit Church of St. Ignatius (featuring works of Bach and Vivaldi) and Concert in White (featuring music piece by composer and current Croatian President, dr. Ivo Josipovic)! An interesting detail about the Programme is that the Orchestra of the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields from Great Britain will be performing again. After last year's premiere performance at the Festival, the orchestra will be putting on two concerts at the Revelin Fortress Terrace on the second last and last day of the Festival. Besides the Concert for the People of Dubrovnik which is traditionally held on a Sunday morning (5 September, Jesuit Church), this year the musicians will participate in one more Festival morning performance! Namely, on the second last day of the Festival, Maestro Rachlin will perform at Dubrovnik Cathedral together with old friends of the Festival, musicians, father and daughter, Mischa and Lily Maisky, playing Rahmanjinov Pieces for Cello and Piano and Brahms' Piano Trio in B major Op. 8.

Alongside the legendary actor Sir Roger Moore, film star John Malkovich will be returning to the Festival once again this year to participate in the Programme following the concept and idea of another well-known friend of the Festival, Aleksey Igudesman. The Programme of the evening, symbolically entitled THE MUSIC CRITIC (September 10th, Rector's Palace), includes the works of Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Debussy, Ravel, Kancheli, Prokofiev, Schumann and Igudesman. During the concert, John Malkovich plays the "music critic" reading reviews by notorious music critics throughout the history.

In addition to the works of Beethoven, Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Schumann, Mahler, Dubugnon, Brahms, Vivaldi, Auerbach, Shostakovich, Mozart, Rahmanjinov, Pärt, and Kancheli, this year's Programme includes one piece by composer and current Croatian President, Dr. Ivo Josipovi. Concerts on the Programme of the 10th Festival of Chamber Music "Julian Rachlin and Friends" will be held at the Rector's Palace, Jesuit Church of St. Ignatius, Revelin Fortress and Dubrovnik Cathedral.

Marking its jubilee tenth anniversary, the Festival "Julian Rachlin and Friends" will for the first time ever organise Violin masterclasses in Dubrovnik which will be held by two renowned educators of today Prof. Boris Kuschnir and Prof. Pavel Vernikov from 28 August to 05 September. In addition to working together with top pedagogues and attending the Festival concerts in Dubrovnik, all participants - 15 young musicians from around world (Japan, Russia, UK, USA, Germany, Austria, Venezuela, Croatia) of the Masterclasses will have an opportunity to perform in the final Masterclass Concert scheduled to take place on the second day of the Festival, on 2 September at the Rector's Palace. The Programme of the Masterclass Concert includes the works of Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Schumann and Mahler. Moreover, the Festival management will select one or more participants who will work on one chamber music concert alongside esteemed musicians like Julian Rachlin, Janine Jansen, Mischa Maisky, Itamar Golan and others.

On the occasion of the tenth birthday of the Festival, UNICEF and the Festival of Chamber Music "Julian Rachlin and Friends" announce an exclusive event, continuing a long-standing cooperation for the benefit of children! Namely, two UNICEF's Goodwill Ambassadors, Sir Roger Moore and Maestro Julian Rachlin will join forces and for the first time ever, under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Croatia, Prof. Ivo Josipovic, LLD, host a humanitarian gala dinner - Music for the Joy of Children. The purpose of this exceptional event, a fusion of music and philanthropy, scheduled to take place on Friday, 3 September at the Dubrovnik hotel VALAMAR Lacroma, is to raise funds to include an even higher number of schools into the Programme "Stop Violence among Children".
