Tafelmusik announces Baroque Mentors

Training Programmes for Emerging Artists

Toronto (Canada) … It is with great pride that Tafelmusik launches the first season ofBaroque Mentors training programmes for emerging artists. Baroque Mentors is a year-long series of masterclasses in Toronto and residencies in universities across Canada, which enhance Tafelmusik’s vision to be a centre of musical excellence for generations to come. Baroque Mentors programmes allow emerging artists to learn directly from Tafelmusik musicians and distinguished guest artists, including sopranoJohannette Zomer (Holland), soprano Dorothee Mields (Germany), tenor Charles Daniels (England), baritone Peter Harvey (England), fortepianist Richard Egarr(England) and violinist Stefano Montanari (Italy).

Among the Baroque Mentors activities offered in 2010-11 are masterclasses and residencies at the University of Toronto, University of Windsor, University of Western Ontario, Wilfrid Laurier University, and University of Victoria.

Many of the students reached through Baroque Mentors are being introduced to period performance for the first time, while experienced period players or singers are able to access training at the highest level by the leading teachers in the field.

Tafelmusik Guest Artist Masterclasses take place at Trinity-St. Paul’s Centre and are open to the public. Admission is $10.00 at the door. May 14, 2011 Stefano Montanari (violin)

Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, led by Music Director Jeanne Lamon and founded in 1979, is one of the world’s leading period performance ensembles. All members of the Orchestra are specialists in historical performance practice, and their collaboration results in a delightful transparency, vitality and richness of sound. Tafelmusik performs over 50 concerts a year at home in Toronto, tours extensively around the world, has released over 75 CDs and has received nine JUNO Awards. In 2005, Tafelmusik received a Grammy Award nomination. Tafelmusik is the Baroque Orchestra-in-Residence at the Faculty of Music, University of Toronto and operates its annual Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute which attracts pre-professional and professional musicians from around the world.
