The 2010-11 season concludes with North America’s first period production of Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito, a story of desperate intrigues, unrequited love and heart stopping reversals of fortune taken directly from Roman history. Roman aristocrat Vitellia, plots the assassination of Tito, Emperor of Rome. Tito’s forgiveness of his enemies catches all off guard, turning the opera’s theme into one of clemency and redemption. In Mozart’s lifetime, La Clemenza di Tito enjoyed enormous success in Vienna, Prague, Berlin, Naples, St. Petersburg, Paris and London.

Opera Atelier brings together a stellar cast featuring Canadian soprano Measha Brueggergosman as Vitellia, extraordinary Croatian tenor Krešimir Špicer as Tito, American male soprano Michael Maniaci in the role of Sesto, Mireille Asselinas Servilia, Mireille Lebel as Annio, Curtis Sullivan as Publio, and Artists of Atelier Ballet. Maestro David Fallisconducts Tafelmusik Orchestra.

The creative team for La Clemenza di Tito includes director Marshall Pynkoski, choreographer Jeannette Lajeunesse Zingg, set and costume designer Gerard Gauci, and lighting designer Bonnie Beecher. The production will be sung in Italian with English SURTITLESTM.

On April 6th, BMO Financial Group presents Opera Atelier’s Silver Anniversary 2011 Versailles Gala at The Carlu, featuring performances and live and silent auctions. For tickets call 416-703-3767 ext. 21.

Opera Atelier also gratefully acknowledges the ongoing support of The Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council, the City of Toronto through the Toronto Arts Council, and the Creative Trust.
