Brampton Global Jazz& blues Festival

TORONTO, ON - Art of Jazz and The City of Brampton are pleased to announce the inaugural Brampton Global Jazz & Blues Festival, taking place from Thursday, August 11 to Sunday, August 13, 2011, with performances at The Rose Theatre, Gage Park and The Bramalea City Centre. Headlining the festival will be the legendary DR. JOHN (August 12 - 7:30 pm) and renowned jazz vocalist BOBBY McFERRIN (August 13 - 7:30 pm). Festival tickets are on sale now, and available at The Rose Theatre box office (905) 874-2800 or online at www.rosetheatre.ca.

From August 11 - 14, The Brampton Global Jazz & Blues Festival will take over the city of Brampton, with performances by some of the world's most revered jazz and blues musicians. The festival will also offer a number of workshops including a vocal workshop with Bobby McFerrin, a jazz and blues inspired film series, a kid's blues jam, a gospel brunch and much more. A full rundown of events can be found at: www.artofjazz.org.

Recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, DR. JOHN'S exclusive 'From Mardi Gras to Mambo' at The Rose Theatre on August 12 will celebrate the sizzling connection between the grooves of New Orleans and Cuba. Dr. John ("Right Place, Wrong Time", "Iko Iko") will be joined by special guests JANE BUNNETT and trombonist extraordinaire SARAH MORROW (Bootsy Collins). This historic show will start with an opening set by Jane Bunnett's Spirits of Havana, featuring Cuban piano master HILARIO DURAN.

"There is something almost superhuman about the range and technique of BOBBY McFERRIN," says Newsweek. To some people, Bobby McFerrin will always be the guy who sang "Don't Worry Be Happy". Drawing on all genres, demonstrating matchless improvisational skills, he never fails to dazzle. When he invites his fans to sing along, as he almost always does, few can resist. Inclusiveness, play, and the universality of voices raised together in song are at the heart of Bobby's art.

In addition to headliners Dr. John and Bobby McFerrin, the BRAMPTON GLOBAL JAZZ & BLUES FESTIVAL will also feature: Downchild Blues Band, Grace Kelly Quartet, 'Queen of the Blues' Rita Chiarelli, Francisco Mela, Jazz Mechanics, Suba Sankaran & Autorickshaw, George Grossman Band, Jumpin Johnny Sansone, Tara Davidson, Luanda Jones, Elmer Ferrer and more.
