Susie Napper, Founder of the Montreal Baroque Festival, honoured for her musical career and her role as mentor

the women’s y foundation honours the 2011 women of distinction laureate in the arts and culture category

Montreal, June 23, 2011 – Selected by an independent jury as the 2011 Women of Distinction Laureate in the Arts and Culture category, Susie Napper is the Founder and Artistic Director of the Montreal Baroque Festival. For ten years now, this festival which takes place at the end of June has attracted the most unusual music lovers from all over the world. Ms. Napper also has a busy international career as a cellist, both as a soloist and ensemble member, and has been awarded many prizes and made numerous recordings. She is well known as the driving force behind numerous musical projects and as a catalyst in the classical music world, making a place for women in all her musical endeavours and playing the role of mentor to the next generation.

In the coming weeks, the Women’s Y Foundation will reveal the names of the recipients in the 10 other categories of the18th edition of its Women of Distinction Awards, selected by a distinguished jury. “By their daily actions, their character and their professional path, each of these Montreal women has enriched the community and contributed to the advancement of women in our society.” declared Ms. Isabelle Hudon, President, Sun Life Financial, Québec and Honorary President of the Women of Distinction Awards Benefit Evening. The funds raised during this benefit event which will take place on September 28th, will be dedicated to financing Literacy, Employability, Housing and Leadership programs offered to the thousands of Montreal women who come to the YWCA Montreal each year.
