The VSO and New York Pops Principal Conductor Steven Reineke present the best music from Broadway and Hollywood in a special Summer Pops concert

Vancouver, BC - New York Pops Principal Conductor Steven Reineke conducts and hosts a hot program of the best music from Hollywood and Broadway with the VSO on Thursday, July 21, 7:30pm at the Orpheum Theatre.

The special summer concert includes selections from Wicked, West Side Story, The Phantom of the Opera, Ragtime, Guys and Dolls, Titanic, Star Wars and more. Outstanding Broadway vocalists Ashley Brown and Ryan Silverman will be joining Steven Reineke for this exciting musical tribute.

Steven Reineke is one of the nation’s most sought-after pops conductors, composers and arrangers. Music Director of The New York Pops, his contract has recently been extended through the 2015/2016 Season. He is the newly appointed Principal Pops Conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra, and he also serves as Principal Pops Conductor of the Long Beach and Modesto Symphony Orchestras, and Associate Conductor of the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra.

Ashley Brown is currently reprising her title role on Broadway in Mary Poppins for which she received Outer Critics, Drama League and Drama Desk nominations for Best Actress. Ms. Brown’s other Broadway credits include Belle in The Beauty and the Beast, and she has starred in the national tour of Disney's On the Record.

Ryan Silverman most recently starred in the Broadway and Las Vegas productions of The Phantom of the Opera as Raoul. He performs various genres including opera, pop musicals, traditional music theatre, big band, and symphony concerts.

Steven Reineke conductor

Steven Reineke’s boundless enthusiasm and exceptional artistry have made him one of the nation’s most sought-after pops conductors, composers and arrangers. In recognition of his successful leadership, The New York Pops have extended his contract as Music Director through the 2015-2016 Season. In addition to conducting the orchestra’s annual Carnegie Hall concert series, Mr. Reineke leads concert tours, recordings and nationwide telecasts, including the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks on NBC Television. New York’s only permanent and professional symphonic pops orchestra, The New York Pops is the largest independent pops orchestra in the United States.

Mr. Reineke is the newly appointed Principal Pops Conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra and begins his first season in 2011/2012. In addition, he serves as Principal Pops Conductor of the Long Beach and Modesto Symphony Orchestras, and Associate Conductor of the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, where for fifteen years he served as a composer, arranger and conducting protégé of the late celebrated pops conductor Erich Kunzel.

Steven Reineke’s recent guest conducting appearances include the orchestras of National (Washington, D.C.), Houston, Toronto, Detroit, Indianapolis, Baltimore, and Edmonton. He returns to the Boston Pops and The Philadelphia Orchestra in 2011 and debuts with The Cleveland Orchestra at Blossom Music Center. He made his Hollywood Bowl debut in 2007 with the multi-faceted entertainer Wayne Brady and returned to the Hollywood Bowl in 2008 to conduct the Los Angeles Philharmonic. In addition, Mr. Reineke conducted, arranged and orchestrated the music for Mr. Brady’s orchestral show and played the same role in his collaboration with rock legend Peter Frampton.

As the creator of more than one hundred orchestral arrangements for the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, Mr. Reineke’s work has been performed worldwide, and can be heard on numerous Cincinnati Pops Orchestra recordings on the Telarc label. Mr. Reineke is also an established symphonic composer. His works Celebration Fanfare, Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Casey at the Bat are performed frequently in North America, with recent performances by the New York Philharmonic and Los Angeles Philharmonic.

In August 2008 his Sun Valley Festival Fanfare debuted with the Sun Valley Summer Symphony to commemorate the opening of the orchestra’s new pavilion. In 2005 his Festival Te Deum and Swan’s Island Sojourn were performed by the Cincinnati Symphony and Cincinnati Pops respectively. The Cincinnati Enquirer had this to say about Festival Te Deum: “Melodious and joyous, it had antiphonal brass in the balconies, organ, full orchestra and wonderful choral passages.” His numerous wind ensemble compositions are published by the C.L. Barnhouse Company and are performed by concert bands around the world.

A native of Ohio, Mr. Reineke is a graduate of Miami University of Ohio, where he earned bachelor of music degrees with honors in both trumpet performance and music composition. He currently resides in New York City. Mr. Reineke is represented by Peter Throm Management, LLC.

Ashley Brown is back on Broadway reprising her title role in “Mary Poppins” for which she received Outer Critics, Drama League and Drama Desk nominations for Best Actress. Ms. Brown also starred as Mary Poppins in the national tour of Mary Poppins where she garnered a 2010 Garland award for “Best Performance in a Musical”. Ms. Brown’s other Broadway credits include Belle in "The Beauty and The Beast", and she has starred in the national tour of Disney's "On The Record". Ms. Brown has performed with many orchestras including the Boston Pops, the New York Philharmonic, The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra at Disney Hall, The Pittsburgh Symphony, the New York Pops at Carnegie Hall (three times), Fort Worth Symphony, the Cincinnati Pops, the Indianapolis Symphony (three times), and the BBC orchestra opposite Josh Groban. She also recently made her solo concert debut at The Kennedy Center as part of Barbara Cook’s Spotlight Series and made her cabaret debut to great acclaim at the renowned Feinstein’s at the Regency in New York City. Recent projects include a star turn at the La Jolla playhouse in a production of “Limelight” and her own PBS special featuring music from the American Songbook. Ms. Brown’s long awaited debut album of Broadway and American Songbook standards was recently released nationwide on Ghostlight/Sony.

Ryan Silverman most recently starred in the Broadway and Las Vegas productions of “The Phantom of the Opera” as Raoul. With a beautiful voice and extraordinary range, Ryan has moved smoothly across various genres including opera, pop musicals, traditional music theater , big band, and symphony concerts. Other Broadway/NYC credits include Music In The Air (Karl) Encores!, Cry baby (Cry Baby u/s), Most Happy Fella (Al)-NYC Opera. His portrayal of Tony in the Oliver nominated 2008 West End production received universal raves. Concert work includes the Cincinnati Pops, NY Pops (Carnegie Hall), Edmonton, Modesto, Hartford Symphony, and Fort Worth symphonies. Cabaret appearances include Feinstein’s and the Café Carlyle.Touring credits include: Phantom (Raoul)-Las Vegas, Mamma Mia (Sky) 1st National Tour, Wicked (Fiero u/s) Chicago.
