Honens Competition Webcasts begin October 17


HONENS COMPETITION WEBCASTS BEGIN WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 17 


HONENS PARTNERS WITH CBC MUSIC AND MEDICI.TV TO STREAM COMPETITION FINALS LIVE 



CALGARY, AB, October 16, 2012 – Webcasts of the Semifinals and Finals of Calgary’s Honens International Piano Competition will air starting tomorrow, Wednesday, October 17.   

Semifinals / Recital Round performances take place twice daily at 1 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Mountain Daylight Time from October 17 to 21.  Each recital includes a 60-minute solo recital and a 70-minute collaborative concert with violinist Geoff Nuttall (of Canada’s acclaimed St. Lawrence String Quartet), cellist Johannes Moser and English soprano Amanda Roocroft. These performances will be broadcast by Honens on ‘Livestream’ and may be accessed through honens.com. For the Finals / Concerto Round, during which five pianists perform with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and its Music Director, Roberto Minczuk, Honens partners with Canada’s CBC Music and France-based webcaster medici.tv.  CBC Music and medici.tv webcasts can also be accessed through honens.com.  Select performances of the entire Competition will be available for repeat viewing through honens.comcbcmusic.ca and medici.tv for a limited time. 

CBC Radio 2, Honens’ National Radio Broadcast partner, will also broadcast highlights of the Competition regularly on Tempo, its weekday national classical music program. Radio 2’s popular Sunday program, In Concert will summarize the ten-day Competition on October 28 with highlights from the Semifinals and Finals.  In Concert airs coast to coast every Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

The Seventh Honens International Piano Competition is recorded and broadcast with the participation of The Banff Centre, CBC Music, Deluxe Design Group and medici.tv, and is made possible by the generous support of Honens donors including The Rozsa Foundation, in memory of the late Dr Ted Rozsa OC and Dr Lola Rozsa, long-time supporters of Honens.
