…A voice of wonderful depth and pliability casting a radiant glow. Her presence is spellbinding … a very classy singer with a bright future.
— Montreal Gazette

Following the huge success of her eponymous first recording with the Orchestre Métropolitain — which was nominated for a JUNO Award and which won a Félix at the ADISQ 2011 — soprano Marie-Josée Lord returns with Yo soy Maria, an extraordinary musical journey from the sidewalks of Buenos Aires, through the gardens of Aranjuez in Spain and into the Avenidas of Portugal. Lord’s new recording provides striking evidence of her success in achieving what she has so often said she aims to do: infuse opera into every project while respecting classical technique.

Marie-Josée Lord makes her much-anticipated Toronto recital debut at Koerner Hall on October 28 at 3:00 PM.

Accompanied by an ensemble of ten musicians and VivaVoce Vocal Ensemble on the recording Yo soy Maria, Lord sings some of the most beautiful songs in the Latin repertoire, including Bésame mucho and Granada. She also shows the depth of her range with more lyrical pieces, such as the Kyrie from Ariel Ramirez’sMisa criolla and Bachianas Brasileiras no. 5 by Villa-Lobos.

The musical director for Yo soy Maria is Simon Leclerc, who arranged ten of the eleven works on the album. Leclerc’s artistic partnership with Lord began in 2008 when they worked together at the Opéra de Montréal on the lyric version of Starmania, the hit rock-opera by Luc Plamondon and Michel Berger. Lord’s success in Starmania established her as an opera singer with popular appeal. Ever since, she has worked to bridge the gap between classical and popular music.
