TORONTO, ONTARIO – The Ontario Philharmonic, led by Marco Parisotto, returns to Toronto’s Koerner Hall for the Great Soloists Series, and its opening night November 6 features the legendary violinist Shlomo Mintz in his long-awaited Toronto return.  The all-Tchaikovsky program features the Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 35 and the Symphony No. 5 in E minor, Op. 64. Maestro Mintz also appears November 3, performing the same concert at Oshawa’s Regent Theatre.
SHLOMO MINTZ, violin - One of the greatest violinists of our time, Shlomo Mintz is lauded by critics, colleagues and audiences for his impeccable musicianship, stylistic versatility and commanding technique. Mr. Mintz regularly appears with the most celebrated orchestras and conductors on the international scene and is heard in recitals and chamber music concerts all around the world. He made his concerto debut with the Israel Philharmonic at age eleven and his Carnegie Hall debut, with the Pittsburg Symphony, at age sixteen. He has recorded the greater part of the important violin repertoire mostly for Deutsche Grammophon. His first CD, the Mendelssohn and Bruch concertos with the Chicago Symphony under Claudio Abbado, won the Diapason d’Or in 1981. In the late 1990s due to high demand, Deutsche Grammophon re-released the complete collection of Mintz’s recordings, many of which have garnered repeat critical praise. He is the recipient of several prestigious music prizes including the Grand Prix du Disque, the Gramophone Award and the Edison Award.  Since 2004 he has been recording for AVIE Records, London.
An esteemed mentor, Mr. Mintz has served on the juries of many important competitions, including the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition in Brussels.  For more information, please visit or
Maestro MARCO PARISOTTO - One of Canada's most distinguished conductors on the international scene, Maestro Parisotto has led major orchestras around the world, including the Philharmonia of London, the Orchestre National de France and the China National Symphony.
