Anton Kuerti on CBC Radio's This Is My Music

ANTON KUERTI SHARES MUSIC & MEMORIES
ON CBC RADIO 2’S THIS IS MY MUSIC, SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 24

Pianist Anton Kuerti shares his favorite music and memories on This is My Music, Saturday, November 24, 10:05 a.m.- noon EST and west; 11:05 AST, 11:35 NST on CBC Radio 2.

Internationally celebrated, particularly for his performances of Beethoven, Brahms and Schumann, Kuerti shares many aspects of his eventful life.  He recalls his three main teachers – Arthur Loesser, Mieczyslaw Horszowski and Rudolf Serkin – and winning the famous Leventritt Award.  His move to Canada brought about his early connection with composer Oskar Morawetz, whose piano concerto he premiered.  It was in Canada that Kuerti met his late wife, cellist Kristine Bogyo, who founded Toronto’s Mooredale Concerts, a series that Kuerti now runs.

Other topics include the early days of the Festival of the Sound, which Kuerti founded; his son, conductor Julian Kuerti; his favorite composer, Schumann, and the festival celebrating Carl Czerny, a composer he championed.

Anton Kuerti has just returned from performances in Shanghai.  On Tuesday, December 4 at 8 p.m., he performs Brahms’ majestic Second Piano Concerto with the Ontario Philharmonic and Maestro Marco Parisotto, at Koerner Hall, 273 Bloor Street West.  The concert is the third Brahms evening presented jointly by Mooredale Concerts and the Ontario Philharmonic as part of the orchestra’s “Great Soloists” series at Koerner Hall.  Tickets are available from www.rcmusic.ca.

This is My Music is produced by Hele Montagna.
