Trio Estonia Tours Ontario September 24 - 27

Concerts in Toronto, Peterborough, Waterloo and Markdale
TRIO ESTONIA VISITS SOUTHERN ONTARIOSEPTEMBER 24-27

Trio Estonia, an ensemble of Esto-Canadian and Estonian musicians, returns to Ontario for six concerts in four days, September 24-27.  It will give three concerts in Toronto, and one each in Peterborough, Markdale and Waterloo.

Formed two years ago as a transatlantic musical co-operative venture, the trio comprises violinist Arvo Leibur, pianist Norman Reintamm andcellist Aare Tammesalu.  Their home bases are Toronto and the Estonian capital, Tallinn.

In Toronto and Peterborough, the trio will be joined by well-known singers in their respective communities – Toronto-based baritone Avo Kittask, and Peterborough soprano Pam Birrell.  Among their selections will be songs by Esto-Canadian composer Udo Kasemets.

Trio Estonia's program ranges from the classics of Beethoven and Giovanni Battista Cirri to contemporary Estonian composers Arvo Pärt and Erkki Sven Tüür, and other contemporary composers much appreciated in Finland and Estonia – among them tango king Astor Piazzolla. 

Arvo Leibur is concertmaster of the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra; Aare Tammesalu is one of the foremost cellists in the Nordic countries and artistic director of the Mustjala Music Festival in Estonia; Norman Reintamm is Conductor of Toronto's Cathedral Bluffs Symphony Orchestra and former conductor at the Estonian National Opera.   

This tour is being sponsored by the Estonian Foundation of Canada/Estonian Cultural Foundation of the Government of Estonia under the auspices of the Cathedral Bluffs Symphony Orchestra of Toronto.
