Canadian Celebrities Offer Pre-recorded messages in honour of the 10th Anniversary of Music Monday!

TORONTO, April 22, 2014 /CNW/ - Canada's music industry is speaking up in favor of music education in schools! In support of the 10th Anniversary of Music Monday, the Coalition for Music Education has assembled a series of PSAs featuring the voices of prominent Canadians from the music world and beyond extoling the benefits of music education including: environmentalist David Suzuki, children's entertainer Fred Penner, R&B singer-songwriter Jully Black, Olympic medalist Jennifer Jones, Dragon's Den financier W. Brett Wilson, MP Andrew Cash, and comedian Dean Jenkinson.
These PSAs are available in 30- and 60-second professionally recorded audio files/MP3s which can be downloaded directly from our website:

The recent proposal by the Vancouver School Board to cut music education in elementary schools is just one more reminder of how dire the situation is facing music programs. Despite overwhelming evidence that shows how valuable music is to students not only pursuing artistic achievement, but also learning life skills, music programs are often still the first targeted for the budget chopping block. This has devastating consequences for communities like your own across Canada.
Through Music Monday, the Coalition for Music Education promotes the value of music, and encourages Canadians to invest in it and protect its future in schools. Since its inception in 2005, Canada's annual celebration of music education has touched the lives of millions of students and teachers across Canada who take their music programs outdoors and into their communities to perform the same song on the same day, at the same time, uniting the entire country in song. Music Monday takes place on the first Monday of May each year.

We feel confident that with your radio station's support we'll have a significant impact on school music programs in your community. I look forward to hearing the first of our PSAs on your station starting on April 25—10 days before the May 5 celebration of MusicMonday.

Thank you very much for your assistance in getting these important messages on the air.
