PSO invites families to explore the wizarding world of Harry Potter with upcoming Discovery Concert

PORTLAND/Maine, April 18, 2014 – With the help of the Portland Symphony Orchestra (PSO), audience members will be transported to Harry Potter’s magical world at the PSO’s upcoming Discovery Concert: Harry Potter and the Magic of Music. Muggles of all ages are invited to attend the family-friendly event, taking place at Merrill Auditorium on Sunday, May 11 at 2:30PM. Tickets are currently available, note the Discovery Concerts routinely sell out.  Tickets are $10 per person.

Music Director Robert Moody will lead the orchestra in this one hour concert with special guest renowned illusionist Lyn Dillies. Fans of the orchestra will remember Dillies from the PSO 2012 Magic of Christmas concerts. Her return to Portland promises to again astound the audience with illusions that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats throughout the performance.

Featuring music from the start to finish of the Harry Potter series, the concert will be full of songs that fans will recognize, including “Harry’s Wondrous World,” “Nimbus 2000,” “Hedwig’s Theme,” and more.

For those who want to catch up on their Potter music ahead of time, the PSO has shared a playlist from Harry Potter and the Magic of Music that can be heard online. An inside look at the concert from Maestro Robert Moody is also available online.

Attendees of all ages are encouraged to dress up as their favorite character and arrive at Merrill Auditorium early; at 1:00 pm the musical fun begins including games, a learn to conduct workshop, and a hands-on instrument petting zoo.
