Peterborough, ON – The city of Peterborough has proclaimed the return of “Symphony Week” in Peterborough again this year, beginning with the official proclamation at council meeting on Tuesday night (April 22nd) at 6:30pm as musicians from the Peterborough Symphony accompany the singing of O Canada! A link to the written proclamation can be found through the Mayor’s page on the city website.
Other events this year include concerts around the city, such as the Peterborough Symphony’s Beethoven Ninth concert on Saturday, April 26th at Showplace, and some smaller pop-up chamber concerts including the hospital. New this year will be instrument demos at some area schools, and an open rehearsal of the “Kawartha Strings” on April 28th at 5pm, Kenner Collegiate. Last year’s popular “Instrument Petting Zoo” will return but with a change of venue, to Peterborough’s own Riverview Park & Zoo on May 3rd.
Symphony Week closes on Sunday, May 4th at 3pm, when the Kawartha Youth Orchestra will be presenting their season finale concert, Sounds of Spring at Market Hall. Featured guests include local music school, Accademia Musica directed by Witold Swoboda, who is also KYO’s string coach.
