"Mr. Raftery brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role at UBC, and will be an excellent addition to our outstanding Voice faculty and our thriving and exciting Opera program!" said Richard Kurth, Director of the UBC School of Music.
In talking about what attracted him about the UBC School of Music and what he will bring to the program, J. Patrick Raftery said:
"I am excited especially by the amount of Opera that is offered to the students at UBC. I am looking forward to working with Professor Hermiston and celebrating many opening nights together. I have been fortunate to work all over the world and keep my sense of individuality. I think every musician is unique and I want to help the students find their own “self” in their performances."
Nancy Hermiston, Chair of the Voice and Opera Divisions concurs: "His enthusiasm, energy and devotion to vocal and operatic performance and to academia, will contribute greatly in maintaining the high standard we have set for our students and faculty and assist the Voice and Opera Divisions in their quest to realize our students' full potential."
