Words and Music Meet Bits and Bytes Local Whitehorse students to join in Hi-Tech Cross-Country webcast on 10th Anniversary MusicMonday

  
On Monday, May 5, music will take the form of not only notes, words, and sounds, but also bits, bytes, and pixels. Music Monday will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a live webcast linking simultaneous cross-Canada events in St. John's NL; Halifax Regional Municipality NS; Charlottetown, PEI; Toronto, ON; Edmonton, AB; Whitehorse, YT; Ottawa, ON; and Montreal, QC and Vancouver, BC. The event concludes with a synchronized nationwide performance of I.S.S. (Is Somebody Singing) with former Canadian Space Agency Astronaut Col. Chris Hadfield, led by Maestro Bramwell Tovey of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. The live webcast will air between12 - 1pm ET on Monday, May 5, 2014and can be accessed at MusicMonday.ca.

The live web cast begins with a welcome featuring by two high school students in Gander, NL. The live web continues with segments from Charlottetown (12:02 p.m. EDT), Halifax (12:06 p.m. EDT), St John's (12:10 p.m. EDT), Toronto (12:15 p.m. EDT), Ottawa (12:20 p.m. EDT), Montréal (12:24 p.m. EDT), Edmonton (12:30 p.m. EDT and 12:36 p.m. EDT), Whitehorse (12:36 p.m. EDT), Vancouver (12:40 p.m. EDT). Maestro Tovey will lead the singing of the official song at 12:51 p.m. EDT. *Timing may change on the day!

Toronto, ON's Ontario Science Centre sets the stage at 12:15 p.m. EDT for appearances byChris Hadfield Public SchoolCanadian singer-songwriter Justin Hines and the SupertonicBarbershop Quartet. The event is hosted by Ontario Science Centre Host Greg Stokes and former Wexford Gleek Sierra Jennings, with guests Dr. Hooley McLaughlin, Chief Science Officer, Ontario Science Centre, and music educator Jane Cutler.

Since its inception in 2005, Canada's annual celebration of music education, Music Mondayhas touched the lives of millions of students and teachers across Canada who take their music programs into their communities to perform the same song on the same day, at the same time, uniting the entire country in song. Music Monday takes place on the first Monday May each year.
