Clear Lake Chamber Music Festival, July 31 – August 4, 2014

BRANDON, MB -  The ninth annual Clear Lake Chamber Music Festival, a celebration of summer with classical music, jazz, and outstanding musicians will take place on the August long weekend beginning Thursday, July 31- Monday, August 4, 2014.  Under the direction of pianist Alexander Tselyakov, the festival will feature five chamber music performances, two jazz concerts, and a morning coffee concert.  All concerts will take place at the Erickson Lutheran Church, with the exception of the first concert which will be held in the Lorne Watson Recital Hall at Brandon University, and the Jazz Concert Cruise, which will take place on "The Martese" at the Marina in Clear Lake.
During the seven concert festival, Alexander Tselyakov will be joined by Kerry DuWors and Marc Djokic, violin; Heather Wilson, viola; Rafael Hoekman, cello; Nancy Hennen, flute; Allen Harrington and Greg Gatien, saxophone; Naomi Forman, soprano; Sarah Hall, soprano; Chelsea Chimilar, mezzo-soprano; Colette Simonot, host; Daniel Tselyakov, piano, Alla Turbanova, piano; Eric Platz, percussion and Mahechver Shunmugan, jazz piano.
The musical content for this summer festival includes the widest range of programming ever presented since the introduction of the event in 2006. The Festival's "Opening Night" concert will take place Thursday, July 31 at 7:30 p.m. and feature our outstandingly brilliant pianist and artistic director, Alexander Tselyakov. The spectacular Extravaganza with saxophone, piano, violin, and flute will be held on Friday, August 1, at 7:30 p.m. This year we will be introducing a morning coffee concert at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 2.  Relax and enjoy yourself with a wonderful cup of coffee, pastry, and a fun concert. Then take a stroll through the scenic town of Clear Lake and return for an entertaining afternoon with our lively jazz concert at 3:00 p.m.  On Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. enjoy a beautiful Romantic concert, and finish the evening with the popular Jazz Concert Cruise at 8:30 p.m.
"Triple the Fun" concert will be offered this year at the Festival's Grand Finale, and will highlight the world premiere of Brandon composer and pianist, Kenneth Nichols and his charming “The River Merchant’s Wife: A Letter” for low voice, flute and piano. The finale will also feature a fabulous trio for voices and the powerful masterpiece, Schostakovich’s Piano Quintet. These friendly and enjoyable concerts will all contain commentary from the artists and hosts.  This dynamic combination of artists and variety in programming will guarantee an exciting and pleasurable summer experience for all in attendance.
