Toronto (Canada), May 23, 2014 … Tafelmusik performs four FREE concerts in different Toronto venues at the Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Festival (TBSF), on May 29June 1 and 5, with the Grand Finale on June 8Running concurrent to the Festival is the Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute (TBSI), which sees 95 pre-professional and professional musicians from 13 different countries gathering in Toronto for an advanced training programme led by some of the world's finest musicians in the field of baroque performance. The concerts include performances by Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and Chamber Choir, TBSI faculty and participants. For details and complete programme information, visit www.tafelmusik.org.
Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute is a comprehensive training program that includes orchestra and choir rehearsals, masterclasses, opera scene study for singers, chamber ensembles, private lessons, lectures and workshops, classes in baroque dance, and concerts by both participants and faculty. Each year TBSI is held at the Faculty of Music at the University of Toronto, where Tafelmusik is the baroque orchestra-in-residence. Over the past twelve years, TBSI has not only grown in size and reputation, but has also become increasingly international. This year’s Institute will welcome musicians from across Canada and the United States, as well as from Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, South Korea, Iran, Turkey, The Netherlands, Germany, France, Costa Rica and Peru.
“TBSI is unique among summer workshops in that the faculty is drawn from an orchestra and choir, allowing us to share not only our individual expertise with the participants, but also our rich communal experience as one of the world’s leading period-performance ensembles,” says TBSI Artistic Coordinator Charlotte Nediger. “TBSI is a challenging and exhilarating experience, one we are delighted to share with the public through our free summer series of faculty and participant concerts.”
TBSI is open to auditors who are welcome to attend individual classes, purchase daily passes, or purchase an open pass for the events of the entire institute. Details and prices are available here.
