Presentation of the 16 young organists selected for the 2014 edition of the Canadian International Organ Competition

Montreal, May 8, 2014 – The names of the 16 candidates that will take part in the 2014 edition of the Canadian International Organ Competition (CIOC) has now been released! These candidates were selected from 42 applicants by a preliminary jury consisting of 5 prominent organists from across North America: Lynne Davis, Joan Lippincott, Jan Overduin, Richard Paré, and Jean-Guy Proulx. All candidates had to be under the age of 35 to be eligible.

The 16 candidates come to Montreal for the 3rd edition of the CIOC which is comprised of 3 live elimination rounds from October 7-19, 2014, all of which will be open to the public.

The candidates for the 2014 CIOC are:

The winner of the 20104 CIOC will be selected by a prestigious international jury during the competition that will take place from October 7 to 19: John Grew (Canada) President of the Jury, Jacques Boucher (Canada), James David Christie (USA), Stefan Engels (Germany), Janette Fishell (USA), Marnie Giesbrecht (Canada), Olivier Latry (France), Pier Damiano Peretti (Italy and Austria), Dame Gillian Weir (United Kingdom). The International Organ Competition of Canada (CIOC)The Canadian International Organ Competition is a non-profit cultural organization dedicated to the promotion of pipe organ music throughout Quebec and across Canada through public educational and outreach activities. These include a national concert series and an annual international festival in Montreal, dedicated to the pipe organ and its vast repertoire. The triennial competition is presided over by the CIOC Artistic Director and eminent organist, John Grew.Since 2008, the CIOC recognizes the best and most promising young organists from around the world, through the work of our prestigious international juries. Previous grand prize winners include Frédéric Champion (France, 2008) and Christian Lane (USA, 2011). The year, the live rounds of the competition, which are open to the public, take place in Montreal from October 7-19.
