The Orchestre Métropolitain's summer season: a little something for everyone on the island... and around

Montreal, Thursday, June 19, 2014 - The Orchestre Métropolitain and its artistic director and principal conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin announce the details of their summer season, which promises to offer plenty in the way of newness and freshness. The Festival de Lanaudière will host the Orchestre Métropolitain on three occasions, and classical music lovers will be treated to a concert at the Mount Royal Chalet overlooking the city. This summer season will be presented in and around Montreal (with a concert also scheduled at the Festival international du Domaine Forget in the Charlevoix region) from June 26 to August 10, and music lovers can expect a summer marked by cherished moments of classical music. Four concerts will be conducted by maestro Yannick Nézet-Séguin.

Festival de Lanaudière
The city of Joliette and its Festival de Lanaudière will thus play host to the Orchestre Métropolitain on three occasions this summer. The initial concert-which will open the festival-will see pianist Stewart Goodyear perform the Concerto No. 2 for Piano by Bartόk under the direction of Julian Kuerti. The second half of the program will feature the Cirque Éloize accompanied by the Orchestre Métropolitain. For the second concert, audiences will be invited to spend an afternoon with the Strauss family featuring conductor Christoph Campestrini and pianist Charles Richard-Hamelin. And finally, audiences will be treated to a concert titled Le romantisme de Yannick Nézet-Séguin.

Concerts in the parks
Nothing says summer like an outdoor classical music concert! The Orchestre Métropolitain will present three such concerts in Greater Montreal parks this summer, including a concert of Viennese music at Parc de l'île Lebel in Repentigny, a concert titled Beethoven en plein air at the Mount Royal Chalet, and a concert at Parc Vancouver on Nun's Island. The final two concerts will be directed by principal conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin.

Les Concerts populaires
The Orchestre Métropolitain will mark the 50th edition of Les Concerts populaires with the presentation of two concerts on a grand scale. The first, under the direction of Julian Kuerti, will pay tribute to Vienna in a repeat performance of the inaugural concert presented at the first Concerts populaires de Montréal; it will feature soprano Aline Kutan. The second, La danse à travers l'Europe, will be conducted by Jean-Philippe Tremblay.

Le Domaine Forget
The Orchestre Métropolitain will spend a Sunday in the beautiful Charlevoix region, where it will take part in a benefit concert for the Jacqueline and Paul Desmarais scholarship fund. Maestro Yannick Nézet-Séguin will direct works by Beethoven and Wagner.
