ABOUT SUMI JO
Praised for her remarkable agility, precision and the warmth of her voice, Sumi Jo has established herself as one of her generation’s most sought-after sopranos. She has performed at the most prestigious opera houses throughout the world including La Scala, the Metropolitan Opera House, the Royal Opera House, the Vienna State Opera and Théâtre National de l’Opéra de Paris.
A Grammy Award winner and a best-selling artist, Sumi Jo has collaborated with conductors such as Sir George Solti, Zubin Mehta, Lorin Maazel among many others, as well as orchestras including the Cincinnati Pops, the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, the Vienna Philharmonic and more. She also worked with Maestro Kent Nagano twice, when he was directing the Orchestre et Chœur de l’Opéra National de Lyon: she recorded under his baton « Ariadne auf Naxos » by Strauss (1994) and « Les Contes d’Hoffmann (The Tales of Hoffmann) » by Offenbach (1996).
She has countless honours and accolades to her name including a Grammy Award for Best Opera Recording, the International Puccini Awar5d and la Siola d’Oro, as well as historic performances at the 2002 FIFA World Cup, the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
