The Canadian International Organ Competition Among Finalists at Tourism Montréal’s 2015 Prix Ulysse ‘Festival’ Category

Montreal, February 26, 2015 – The Canadian International Organ Competition (CIOC) is proud to announce it has been shortlisted for a 2015 Ulysse Prize, Festival category, awarded by Tourisme Montréal. 

2014 CIOC Competition

From October 7 to 19, 2014 the CIOC welcomed 10 000 spectators to its 40 events, spanning from competition rounds, concerts, educational activities and masterclases, and has collaborated with the many leading Montreal organisations such as Orchestre symphonique de Montréal and Arion Baroque Orchestra, as well as with world-renown organists like Olivier Latry and James David Christie. The opening concert featured folk-pop singer Martha Wainwright accompanied at the organ by two CIOC winners, Jean-Willy Kunz and Christian Lane; the gala concert took place at the Maison symphonique Concert Hall on the Grand Orgue Pierre-Béique.

15 young organists from around the world participated in the Competition, evaluated by 9 judges from North-America and Europe. David Baskeyfield from the United-Kingdom won the First Prize, the Richard-Bradshaw Audience Prize and the Royal College of Canadian Organists Prize for the best interpretation of a Canadian work. Results will be unveiled during the Prix Ulysse Gala at the Maison symphonique de Montréal on March 24, 2015 at 7:30 PM.
