Blue Soap Records: New Music from Orange Vision and Icicle

Rum Thief
Reach For the Weatherman
27 July 2015

Lead Tracks: Stitch in Time & Dirty Shoes

Rum Thief is solo artist Jot Green with support from his band,  based in Chorlton, Manchester. The project began when Green, after playing as a drummer in bands for over ten years, decided to record some songs of his own. Booking into Airtight studio in Chorlton, Manchester he performed the drums, guitars, vocals and backing vocals to produce his first EP 'Clouded Mind'. The titular lead track generated interest from media outlets across the north west and with the help of ex band mates and a new live drummer, Rum Thief secured some local gigs, festivals, support slots and airplay on local and national radio. 'Reach For The Weather Man' is Rum Thief's second EP and is characterised by Jot Green's keen ear for melody and his sharp observational lyrical content.

The Band:
Jot Green (Vocals, guitars, drums on studio tracks)
Johnny Brown (Lead guitar - live)
Iain McGowen (Bass - live)
Chris Hobs (Drums - live)

"In Rum Thief Manchester surely has one of the biggest talents in the UK at the moment and after the amazing 'Clouded Mind EP', they are back and keeping momentum going with debut single 'Dirty Shoes'"
Emerging North

"From the sharp, lyrical mind of Jot Green comes alter ego, ‘Rum Thief’ – an artist whose fresh garage sound captures the true essence of Manchester grit and attitude."

Bourbon Street Beat
Crossing On a Bend
27 July 2015

Bourbon Street Beat's new single 'Crossing On a Bend' and b-side 'She's His Woman' showcase their signature sound perfectly.

Inspired by 50s and 60s bands such as Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Band, The Rolling Stones and The Beatles, as well as Rock’n’Roll legends like Elvis, Buddy Holly and Johnny Cash, each of these influences are apparent in technique and style yet reinterpreted to give Bourbon Street Beat an indie edge.

Iain Hammond (vocals and guitar), Joe Morrison-Hay (bass) and Andy Mackenzie (drums) met at university and formed the band in 2012. Their last EP 'Knuckles of Brass' earned them a strong following in Manchester with this release set to spread the word even further.

‘Crossing on a Bend’ was recorded at Blueprints Studios in Salford, engineered by Tim Thomas and mastered by Gary Hadfield.

“They have a sound that seems to mark them out as a band that goes against the grain in terms of how bands from Manchester sound. Kudos to them for doing that, and extra brownie points for pulling off something that doesn't come across as pretentious.”
Twenty1 Zero Media

By taking the us from Oldham Street to the Mississippi Delta within a ferocious chord sequence, 'Bourbon Street Beat' supply themselves with a 'Caleb Followill' style baritone and a bottomless pit of melodies, much like 'Creedence Clearwater Revival'”

Orange Vision
Dark Around the Eyes
31 August 2015

'Dark Around the Eyes' is the latest release from Orange Vision, a band firmly in the ascendant having already enjoyed support from Huw Stephens on BBC Radio 1 and Steve Lamacq on BBC 6 Music as well as earning coveted support slots for Superfood and Honeyblood on the NME New Breed Tour.

The four-piece from Oxford, influenced by post punk, glam and shoegaze, produce reverb drenched, melodic pop anthems with a new wave edge.

Formed two years ago when Ed and Matthew bonded over a love of clothes, music and a generally delinquent approach to their depressing surroundings and sapped music scene, they were later joined by Daniel and Jake. The band became a primary focus and what started as a driving growling rock and roll sneer has blossomed into a post punk psychedelic new wave dream.

Edmund Quigley - Lead Vocals/Guitar
Jacob Mott - Backing Vocals/Drums
Matthew Holford - Lead Guitar
Daniel Jones - Bass Guitar

“We were bowled over by their soundcloud track “How You Feel”, which combines new wave guitars with a nifty spoken-word interlude featuring a lost Marc Bolan interview”
Matt Wilkinson, NME

“They have the look and feel of a great 90’s bands like Pulp and Kula Shaker, but with galloping doses of The Horrors and The Cure”

The Pinstripe Pigeon Band
Sound Asleep EP
3 August 2015

The Pinstripe Pigeon Band began as a modest, yet ambitious studio project, incorporating production values inspired by Jon Hopkins, Nile Rogers and Cut Chemist, but this quickly developed into a seven-strong pop force, releasing five well-received EPs throughout 2013/14.?

The band's latest material?showcases intelligent sophisti-pop, electronica, funkadelia and anthemic rock. The lyrics lovingly articulate personal experiences while finding humour in political and social despair. Kirsty's impassioned vocals hark back to Aretha at her most bombastic and Dusty at her most delicate.

Collectively, the band soak up songcraft and live influences from Fleetwood Mac, The Band, The Beatles, Ryan Adams, Motown, Chic, John Coltrane, The E Street Band and Ben Harper.

The band has the benefit of two keyboardists, one melodically inventive Stevie Wonder/Oscar Peterson-esqe pianist and another more classical, akin to?Ludvico Einaudi, both complimenting each other perfectly.
The energised live show is characterised by rousing intent, hitting a resonant chord with each new audience. The band grabbed the attention of local media with BBC Introducing Lancashire showcasing a live radio session and BBC Cumbria playing a live recording of the group at Carlisle Music City.

Live sets at The Ferret, 53 Degrees and Night & Day left a lasting impression in Preston and Manchester, and last August The Pinstripe Pigeon Band smashed it at Kendal Calling's Woodland Stage with new fans and old describing their set as one of the festival's highlights.

2015 will see the pop collective spreading its wings further afield, headlining Manchester’s The Castle and Liverpool's Lomax later in the year.

Icicle Theorems
Herd Records
15 September 2015

Lead Tracks: 'Calma, Calma', 'On and On'

"It's as if Simple Minds had a baby with Depeche Mode and Placebo!"
Pamela Chelin (Rolling Stone, Spin, LA Weekly, LA Times)

Hailing from Montreal, Canada, Icicle's second album 'Theorems' is released on September 15, 2015.
This follow-up solo record consists of twelve very strong and personal compositions created during an exceptionally intense period for the artist. It bounces between rock and pop, accessible and innovative yet open and defiant.

As Icicle, Krassy Halatchev has charmed Canadian and international audiences for over two decades following his defection from communist Bulgaria with the band The Clouds.

From 1996 to 2012, he was a core member of the Montreal-based band Chiwawa, a group that had some success touring as well as collaborating on various film and video projects.

While 'Theorems' marks his second solo release, Halatchev's team spirit has closely tied him together with Florida based poet Joel Jenkins who wrote lyrics for some of the songs. The merging of the cultural and expressive styles has brought forward a work that is both unique yet familiar. “On and On”, the album’s second single, is a perfect example for their remarkable collaboration.

Fans can pre-order 'Theorem's on BandCamp starting August 1st, 2015. It will also be available starting September 15th from every major online retailer.
